Travel to Glacier National Park

Amtrak Superliner service runs twice daily through the southwest corner of Glacier National Park with stops at stations in West Glacier, Essex and East Glacier, Montana. In the Flathead Valley west of the park, Amtrak stops in Whitefish at US HWY 93.

Trains run through Glacier during daylight hours which is best for viewing scenery along the route.

Eastbound trains travel through Glacier in the morning and the westbound trains go through from late afternoon to the early evening.

By Air

Glacier International Airport is only about 30 miles from the west park entrance at West Glacier.

Carriers are: Delta from Salt Lake City, NorthWest Airlines from Minneapolis, United from Denver, and Horizon from Spokane and Seattle.

Equipment varies by flight duration and runs from 60 passenger propjets from the Pacific coast cities up to the Airbus 300's from Minneapolis.

The cities of Kalispell, Columbia Falls and Whitefish are nearby in the event an overnight stay is required for early or late departures or arrivals.

Glacier Park International airport will experience weekday closures during August 2009 for runway resurfacing. The air- port will be closed every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the month of August. Airline operation will cease each Monday evening at 10PM MDT and will resume at 9AM MDT each Friday morning.
