Wildlife Viewing
in
Glacier National Park

Get Up Early

One of the most popular activities in Glacier National Park is the viewing of wildlife in it's natural habitat.

Although bears are probably the most desired sighting, many visitors are treated to seeing moose and deer in the west side forests.

Rocky Mountain Goat

Mountain goats are easily viewed near Logan Pass and occasionally rocky mountain sheep will pass through the area.

Visitors to the Many Glacier area have seen bears along the hillside above the hotel area for years, binoculars are helpful at this location.

Campers at Two Medicine Lake have seen mother and cubs on the lower slopes of Mt. Sinopah.

Birds as large as the mighty Bald Eagle and as small as a hummimgbird can be easily seen by the patient visitor. Visitor's centers stock the Glacier National Park bird life list which is available free of charge.

The best tip for viewing wildlife along the road is to get up early. Animals are active in the hours just after dawn, then rest during the heat and commotion of the day.

Evening may be good for viewing, particularly early or late in the season when there are fewer visitors.
